Mrs. Mary A. Cotton Bell, age 66, of Bradenton, Florida and formerly of Campbellton, Florida went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 28, 2016 in the Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton.

She was born November 29, 1949 to Annais Cotton and Nebraska Johnson in Dothan, AL.

 She is survived by her siblings: John Cotton of Brandon, FL, Sarah Lowe of Palmetto, FL, Betty Cotton-Myrick of St. Petersburg, FL and Bettye Richardson (Johnny) of Parrish, Florida; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be 2:30 PM, Sunday, December 11, 2016, at the Saint Paul AME Church Cemetery in Campbellton, FL under the directions of Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville, FL.

Mr. William “Red Bone” Porter Jr., age 69, of Graceville, Florida and formerly of Campbellton, Florida went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at his residence in Graceville.

He is survived by his sons: Travis Porter, William Porter III, and Shawn Porter; his stepmother, Hazel Porter of Dothan, Alabama; sisters: Dorothy Godwin (Willie) of Tampa, FL, Sarah Brown (Jimmy) of Dothan, Alabama and Vanessa Hampton (Robert) of Atlanta, Georgia; brothers: Michael Daniels (Linda), Cleveland Porter (Bridgett) all Dothan, Alabama, Bobby Porter (Lanea) of Conway, South Carolina and Rodrick Porter (Crystal) of Atlanta, Georgia; six grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends.

Visitation will be 2-7 PM, Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held 11AM, Wednesday, December 21, 2016, True Word of God Ministries, Graceville, FL. He will be laid to rest in the Saint Mary Cemetery in Jacob City, FL under the directions of Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville.

Johnny Lee Roche, Sr.

Mr. Johnny Lee Roche, Sr., of Vernon, Florida went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 9, 2017 at the Gulf Coast Medical Center.

He was of the Methodist faith, a graduate of Vernon High School, Vernon, Florida and a longtime employee of Gulf Coast Utility Contractors of Panama City, FL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earnest Sr., and Ophelia Roche and a nephew, William Roche, Jr.

Johnny Lee will forever remain in the hearts of his loving and devoted wife, Grace Roche; his children; Johnny Lee (Christina) Roche, Jr., Contessa ZeKeivia Roche Brewer, Brionna D. (D’Andre) Roche and LaConya Shylenthia Roche; nine grandchildren; brothers: Ronald Roche, Phillip Roche (Adel) and William (Cindy) Roche, Sr.; mother-in-law: Mary Johns Peterson; sister and brother-in-law: Willie Mae Peterson-Gaddy and Thomas Peterson, Jr.; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and co-workers and friends.

Visitation will be 4-7 PM, Friday, January 13, 2017, in the M. Sue and Rodney D. Pittman Memorial Chapel, 5441 Cooper Street in Graceville, FL.

A celebration of life will commence at 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 14, 2017, Vernon Community Center, 2808 Yellow Jacket Drive in Vernon, FL.

Johnny Lee will be laid to rest in the Sylvania Cemetery, Vernon, Florida, under the directions of Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville, FL.

Reba Diane Sorey

The Reverend Reba Diane Sorey was born in Noma, Florida, on Wednesday, August 11, 1954.

Reverend Sorey was an active member of Saint Mark African Methodist Episcopal Church, Noma, Florida until the Lord called her into Ministry in the 11th District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Reba pastored the following churches: Grace Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Circuit which includes Saint Mark African Methodist Episcopal Church, Greenwood Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Greenwood Florida; Mount Olive African Methodist Episcopal Church, Marianna, Florida; Saint Luke African Methodist Episcopal Church, Malone, Florida; Saint Peter African Methodist Episcopal Church, Midway, Florida and lastly Saint Luke African Methodist Episcopal Church and Saint John African Methodist Episcopal Church, Vernon, Florida.

Reverend Sorey retired from ministry due to health issues, August 2016. In October 2016, Reba joined New Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, Bonifay, Florida under watch care.

Over her lifetime, Reverend Sorey held many positions in the community to include everything from assisting Poplar Springs High School in various activities and Holmes County Council on Aging, to serving as a Councilwoman in the Town of Noma, Florida. As one dear friend would say, “Reba loved and lived fearlessly, carrying the strength of her convictions as her testimony. Holmes County owes Reba Sorey a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid.”

Reverend Sorey was preceded in death by a son, Tony Jackson; her mother, Flora Katreen “Kate” Woods Dixon and grandmother: Evelyn Woods.

On Saturday, January 14, 2017, while surrounded by family, the Lord called His servant home.

Reverend Sorey leaves to celebrate her life a loving husband of forty-four years, Johnny Sorey of Noma, Florida; two sons: Darrell (Precious) Jackson of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Ashley Sorey of Lynn Haven, Florida; one precious daughter: Niki (Bobby) Long of Two Egg, Florida.

Reverend Sorey also leaves to cherish her memoires four sisters: Deborah Woods and Sherry Lloyd both of Dothan, Alabama, Donna Dixon, Noma, Florida and Danette Dixon of Daleville, Alabama; a brother: Wayne (Tina) Dixon, Noma, Florida; one very special aunt: Kathleen Coleman of Dothan, Alabama; her mother-in-law: Eula Sorey of Campbellton, Florida; ten grandchildren: Richmond (Amber) Ford, Fort Hood, Texas, Darrell (Jaliha) Jackson II of Hartford, Alabama; Giovanni Clay, Caitland Clay-Jackson, Jayni Jackson, Precious “Lil’ Bit” Jackson, “Big” Jalen, “Little” Jaylin and Josiah all of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Kaitlyn Sorey of Lynn Haven, Florida; two great grandchildren: Aliyah Jackson and Roderick Ford; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be 5-7 PM, Friday, January 20, 2017 in the M. Sue and Rodney D. Pittman Memorial Chapel, 5441 Cooper Street, Graceville, FL.

Celebration of life for Reverend Sorey will be 11 AM, Saturday, January 21, 2017 in the Saint Mark African Methodist Episcopal Church, St. Mark Street, Noma, Florida with Reverend Richard Davis, pastor/presiding and Elder Phillip Russ IV, delivering the eulogist.

Reverend Sorey will be laid to rest in the Graceville Community Cemetery in Graceville, FL under the directions of Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville, Florida.

Mrs. Glory Jean Madison Dean of Dothan, AL departed this life on Friday, January 27, 2017.

On Friday, January 27, 2017, God called our beloved daughter, mom, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend from labor to reward. She was born on March 7,1953 to the late Cleo and Ethel Mae Madison. At an early age she accepted Christ as her Savior, and she cherished her walk with him for the remainder of her life. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist church in Webb Alabama. Glory worked at Edge Water High school as the head cook for 8 years. She loved preparing amazing big meals for her family as well.

Sister Glory Dean was preceded in death by her late husband Johnny Dean, Jr.; One daughter Rose Dean; parents Cleo and Ethel Mae Madison; three brothers Henry Madison, Cleo Madison, Jr. and Robert Earl Madison; father and mother-in-law: Johnny and Eva Lou Dean.

She leaves to cherish her memories: two sons Marlon and Michael dean all of Orlando, FL; sisters and brothers: Donella (Marcus) Taylor AL, Gracie Lee Mitchell of Orlando, FL, Ernest (Peggy) Madison, and Willie Frank (Patricia) Madison all of Orlando FL; Lester (Johneice), and Don Madison all of Slocomb AL; two sisters-in-law Francis Madison of Dothan and Tinese Dean Ft. Lauderdale, FL; two brothers-in-law Alfonzo and Lavier Dean; 8 grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, February 3, 2017, 4-7 PM, in the M. Sue & Rodney D. Pittman Memorial Chapel, 5441 Cooper Street, Graceville, FL.

Funeral services will be Saturday, February 4, 2017, 11:00 AM, in the M. Sue & Rodney D. Pittman Memorial Chapel, 5441 Cooper Street, Graceville, FL in Bishop David C. Mack officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Saint Phillips Cemetery, Slocomb, AL under the directions of Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville, FL.

Mr. George Henry Lewis, Sr., age 68, of Graceville, FL departed this life on Saturday, January 28, 2017 in Marianna, Florida.

He professed Christ at an early age and joined McChapel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Marianna, Florida. Brother Lewis attended Union Grove High School where he graduated in 1966. He joined the military (United States Army) on January 25, 1968, in which he had an honored career and retired on February 1, 1988. He received an certificate from the US Army-Unit Level Logistics System (1975); Yongsan, South Korea (January 14, 1976); Diploma as a Wheel Vehicle Mechanic Noncommissioned Office, US Army Ordinance Center and School, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland (June 23, 1976); Certificate of Completion from the United States Army Transportation School of Transportability, Fort Eustis, Virginia Planning Course (December 17, 1980); Received a Diploma in Mechanical Maintenance (NCO Advance Course) US Army Ordinance Center and School, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland (April 8, 1981); Received a Certificate of Training on the (HSTRU), Fort Bragg, North Carolina (August 23, 1985); Received Certificate of Training on Support and Organization Maintenance CUCV Family of Vehicle from the United States Army TACOM, Warren, Michigan           

 Later in life he met his soulmate and was joined in Holy Matrimony to Deloris Snelling. To this union three loving children were born.

Brother Lewis was greeted in the Heavenly gates by his parents; aunt: Katherine Lewis; a sister, Ethel F. Collins; and brother, William Lee Lewis, Jr. (identical twin).

His children: Sharnesia E. Lewis, George H. Lewis, Jr., and Robert J. Lewis all of Hinesville, Georgia; grandchildren: Nathanael R. Lewis, Robert J. Lewis, Jr., and M’harnesia S. Lewis; three sisters: Lottie B. (Emanuel) Spires, Marianna, Florida, Mamie L. (Jody) Russ, Campbellton, Florida and Ethel F. (Clifford) Collins of Canto, Maryland; two brothers: Charles Edward Lewis, Marianna, Florida and Robert Allen (Anita) Lewis, Fayetteville, North Carolina; aunts: Nina Long, Greenwood, Florida and ;  nieces and nephews: James, Tammy, Reginald, Travis, Jason, Jordan, Shakira and Whindleton “Robert Jr.”; other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, February 3, 2017, 4-7 PM, in the M. Sue & Rodney D. Pittman Memorial Chapel, 5441 Cooper Street, Graceville, FL.

Funeral services will be Saturday, February 4, 2017, 1:00 PM, at McChapel AME Church, Marianna, Florida with Reverend Dr. M. L. Jackson, officiating. He will be laid to rest in the church cemetery, with full military honors, under the directions of Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville, FL.

Mrs. Twynette Linda Ponds Beachem age 55, of Panama City, Florida went home to be with the Lord on Sunday February 5th at the Gulf Coast Community Hospital in Panama City, FL.

She was a native of Jackson County, a member of Saint John Missionary Baptist Church, Panama City, FL and employed with WMBB TV.

She is survived by her husband, Wayne Beachem; her son, Jeremy Ponds; her loving and devoted mother, Elizabeth Hall Ponds; brothers: Lawrence Ponds, Jr., and Eugene Cooper; stepchildren: Malcom Beachem, Teresa Beachem, Daniya Beachem and Nikia Beachem all of Panama City, FL; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 Visitation will Friday, February 10, 2017, 12 Noon until funeral time at 2:00 PM, at Saint John Missionary Baptist Church, Panama City, FL.

Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery, under the directions of Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville, Florida.

Daisy Lee West Barkley

Mrs. Daisy Lee West Barkley age 88, of Saint Petersburg, Florida and formerly of Graceville, Florida and Old Columbia, Alabama went home to be with the Lord on Sunday February 12, 2017 at the Capital Regional Medical Center in Tallahassee, Florida. 

Mrs. Daisy Lee West Barkley was born on Wednesday, August 1, 1928 in Columbia, Alabama to Eugene and Caroline Benson West in a Christian home. Daisy was moved from St. Petersburg, FL to Tallahassee in 2014 to be closer to her daughter, Patricia and granddaughter, Melody.  She resided at the Heritage Healthcare Center, where she was affectionately known as “Miss Daisy”.

Daisy received Christ as her personal Savior at an early age while a member at the Columbia Missionary Baptist Church. When she and her family moved to Graceville, FL, she became a member of New Easter Missionary Baptist Church. 

On Saturday, March 31, 1956, Daisy was joined in Holy Matrimony to Roger Lewis Barkley in Chipley, FL.  To this union twin children were born: a son, Patrick, who died as an infant, and a daughter, Patricia.  Daisy, R.L., and Patricia moved to St. Petersburg, FL in 1958.  There, they attended McCabe United Methodist Church for a number of years.  Returning to her “Baptist roots”, Daisy later joined St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, which was her church home until she moved to Tallahassee.

Daisy worked for 32 years for Dr. John and Mrs. Leona Meyer of St. Petersburg, helping to care for their home and children. Mrs. Barkley was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, and six of her siblings: Naomi West, Hattie Waters, Dixie Ann Clark, Alpha Kate Roberts, Eugene West, Sr., and Samuel West, as well as her stepdaughter, Emma Jean Dickey.

Daisy will be forever loved and remembered by those left to cherish her memories: her daughter, Patricia Barkley (fiancé, Roderick Jackson) of Tallahassee, FL; a brother, Frank Edward West of Dothan, AL; two grandchildren: Patrick Jordan (fiancé, Shannon Lalande) of Pinellas Park, Florida and Melody Dorsey of Tallahassee, Florida; two step-grandchildren: Reginald Dickey and Jaris Dickey both of Tallahassee, Florida; four great grandchildren: Patrizia Jordan, Elizabeth Jordan, and Trevon Jordan all of Saint Petersburg, Florida, Kyla Jordan, Pinellas Park, Florida and Caniqua McGowan of Tallahassee, Florida; three great-great grandchildren: Khloe Wallace, Jordyn Smith and Trinity Jordan all of Saint Petersburg, Florida; a sister and brother-in-law: Juanita West of Saint Petersburg, Flroida and Baldon C. Barkley, Atlanta, Georgia; her best friend: Alma Scott, Saint Petersburg, Florida; a multitude of sorrowing nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

Visitation will be 3-7 PM, Friday, January 17, 2017, in the M. Sue and Rodney D. Pittman Memorial Chapel in Graceville, FL.

Funeral services will be 1 PM, Saturday, January 18, 2017, Saint Paul AME Church, Campbellton, FL.

Interment will follow in the Graceville Community Cemetery under the directions of Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville.

Retired Command Sergeant Major (Ret. CSM) Edward Lewis Johnson, age 75, of Fayetteville, NC and formerly of Bascom, FL went home to be with the Lord on Sunday March 12, 2017 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, Fayetteville. 

He was a native of Jackson County and a former member of New Liberty Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Bascom, Florida.

He is survived by his, wife, Nancy H. Johnson of Fayetteville, NC; children: Nikita G. Johnson (Tanya) of Deland, FL, Judy R. Johnson of Winston-Salem, NC, Desiree Johnson Sterbini (Paul) of Silver Spring, MD and Rhonda J. Knight of East Hartford, CT and two grandchildren: Paige Knight, East Harford, CT and Mia Sterbini, Silver Springs, MD; brothers: Deacon Ralph D. Pollock (Helen) Bascom, FL and Isaac H. Pollock (Hazel), Bradenton, FL; goddaughter: Lee Bailey, Fayetteville, NC; mother-in-law: Mamie B. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 1 pm at New Liberty Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 5239 Liberty Hill Road, Bascom, Florida.

Interment will follow in New Liberty Hill Church Cemetery in Bascom, FL, with full military honors, and under the directions on Christian Memorial Chapel.

Mrs. Josephine Brown age 91, of Panama City, Florida went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 14, 2017 at her residence with her family at her bedside. She was a native of Watertown, Georgia of the Methodist faith.

Mrs. Brown is survived by her children: Betty McCray of Panama City, FL and Melvin Foster and wife Alvita, Wichita Falls, TX; eight grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be 12 noon to funeral time at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, April 22, 2017, at Saint Paul AME Church, 3517 2nd Street, Panama City, FL with the Reverend Douglas Jones officiating.

David Lee  “Skeet” Barnes, Sr., entered into eternal rest on the evening of April 13, 2017.

 David was born in Port St. Joe, Florida, on September 21, 1951 to the late Lewis and Nora Barnes and received his formal education from George Washington High School. Where he was an excellent basketball player.

 David served his country in the United States Army. He worked for Arizona Chemical plant for 20 plus years. And was a member of the NAACP. He “LOVED” music practically Charlie Wilson!

He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Sedra Denise Harvey Barnes; sons: David L. A life celebration will be held at Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at 11:00 AM, (EST), in United States Army Infantry Center Chapel, at Fort Benning, GA.

He will be laid to rest in the Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, Fort Mitchell, Alabama with full military honors, under the directions of Christian Memorial Chapel, Graceville, Florida.

He is the brother of IFDF member, Gail Works, Christian Memorial Chapel, Graceville, Florida.

He graduated Holmes County High School, Bonifay, Florida, in 1981. He continued his education at Chipola College, Marianna, Florida, and was a mechanic by trade.

Travis was preceded in death by his father: Gus Works, Jr.; grandparents: Gus, Sr., and Tina Ola Johns Works and Carrie Newman; a nephew: Alexis Andrews and brother-in-law: Harry Lee Andrews; and most recently a brother Charles Allen Works (April 27, 2017).

Bishop Arthur Edward Cutler, Sr. age 84, of Panama City, Florida and formerly of Fairfax, GA went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at the Clifford Chester Sims State Veterans Nursing Home in Panama City. 

He was a Licensed Funeral Director/Embalmer at Christian Memorial Chapel and retired from Gulf Coast State College in Panama City.

Bishop Cutler was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Evangelist Geneva Cutler (July 11, 2013).

Bishop leaves to cherish his memories a  daughter: Frances Cutler-Robinson (Johnny), Jacksonville, FL; two sons: William Cutler (Rochelle), Panama City, FL and Arthur E. Cutler, Jr. (Corine), Panama City, FL; one: Peggy Reinhart, Tallahassee, FL; four brothers: Dr. Albert Cutler, Tampa, FL, the Reverend George Cutler (Rose), Detroit, MI, Wallace Cutler, Ypsilanti, MI and Ronald Cutler (Natalie), Atlanta, GA; sister-in-law: Althea Cutler; thirteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
